The COVID-19 pandemic created supply chain disruptions and materials shortages that were caused, in part, by manufacturing and distribution workers that were sick or laid off. Supply chain disruptions and shortages, however, are not limited to pandemics. For example, storms can shut down suppliers’ manufacturing plants. In implementing lean manufacturing, a variety of risks should be considered, including the risk of supply chain disruptions.
