The following data are from 10 health-planning districts in Vermont. Y is the percentage of live births ≤ 2500 grams. X₁ is the fertility rate for women ≤ 17 or ≥ 35 years of age (X₁ is known as the “high-risk fertility rate.”). X₂ is the percentage of births to unmarried women.

Compute the regression equation for predicting the percentage of births of infants weighing less than 2500 grams (Y) on the basis of the high-risk fertility rate (X₁).

Use R, or SPSS, or any other available program to accomplish this (and the next several questions).

I am assuming that you will use R, or SPSS, or any other available program to answer many of the questions in this chapter, However, it is not very difficult to obtain the results by hand calculation.
