One way that language might influence how you perceive the world around you is through implicit categories and hierarchies found in language systems. For instance, you might comment that a dog is “cute” and “friendly.” Those terms indicate that you place the dog into certain categories and perhaps even rank the dog into some sort of hierarchy.
