2.1 FARADAY'S LAW AND COIL VOLTAGE EQUATION A coil of N turns linking magnetic flux p coming from an independent external source as shown in Figure 2.1a induces an internal voltage equal to -dp/dt in every turn of the coil. With N turns in series, it adds up to the terminal voltage v=-N x dp/dt.
