1. Interview a businessperson you admire who is in a position to set the ethical tone for his or her company.

2. Before the interview, write a list of questions that concern the ethics of the company. You might ask: What are the ethical issues you confront in your business? How do ethics play a role in the success of your company?

3. Call for an appointment. Explain to the person you want to interview that you are doing a research project on business ethics.

4. Write a report on your interview. Comment on whether you agree with the person’s business ethics, and why or why not.

Ethics give you a system of moral principles that govern appropriate conduct, but not everyone agrees on what conduct is appropriate. One business owner might think it is ethical to lock out a renter who is late with the rent. Another business owner might think that is unethical. Your own moral code will help you determine what you think is ethical conduct.
