Interview people (friends, family or work colleagues from a range of organisations) about their own responsibilities in relation to health and safety and then about their perceptions of other people’s roles in their particular organisation. Try to establish how the roles relating to health and safety differ for managers, other employees, human resource managers, safety officers, safety representatives and someone designated to be a ‘competent person’. Are these roles the same in different types of organisation? How do they compare with what we said earlier in the chapter about these roles?
