Without using any measuring device, ask each student to draw a line believed to be 3 in. long and another line believed to be 3 cm long. Then use rulers to measure and record the lengths of the lines drawn. Record the errors along with the genders of the students making the estimates. Test the claim that when estimating the length of a 3-in. line, the mean error from males is equal to the mean error from females. Also, do the results show that we have a better understanding of the British system of measurement (inches) than the SI system (centimeters)?
