A charge distribution is contained entirely inside a black box. Measurements of the electrostatic potential outside the box reveal that all of the exterior multipole moments for ℓ = 1, 2, . . . are zero in a coordinate system with its origin at the center of the box. This does not imply that the charge distribution is spherically symmetric. Prove this by constructing a counter-example.
