Create a free AWS account, then visit Amazon’s hands-on tutorials at: https://aws.amazon.com/getting-started/hands-on/ Some of these courses take only ten minutes to complete and use the free tier of AWS resources (although you might still need a credit card to use them, even though it won’t be charged). Work with your instructor on submission of results from some of these short courses. Suggestions include “Launch a Windows Virtual Machine,” which will create a Windows instance in the cloud using Lightsail, a sort of scaled-down version of EC2. Also consider: “Run a Serverless ‘Hello, World!’” where you’ll create a Lambda that will print a simple message. Even if you’re not going to pursue a technical career, employers are likely to be very impressed that you’ve experimented with AWS services. And if you are pursuing a technical career—try out even more of these on your own. See if your instructor will offer extra credit for completing some of the more complex tutorials. Offer to share the example of what you create with your class.
