b) What are your state's criminal penalties for partner/family member assault (DV)? Cite your state's statute. Are those penalties sufficiently severe to punish the wrongdoers and prevent further DV? On the other hand, if the fine or jail time for the DV simply places the family in a worse financial position than it was already in, what options should the court have to punish the offender which does not also punish the family?
