Buoyancy Is defined as the ability or tendency to float in water or air or some other fluid. In Ms part of the lab, we will be looking this principle.

3. Next, your group should obtain a 20 Newton Spring Scale, and two masses: one with a mass of 500 grams and one with a mass of 1000 grams. As background, a spring scale works In the same way that a regular scale does. When a weight is attached to It. Its spring stretches and the scale displays the weight of the attached object. 3. Take the 500 gram mass and the 1000 gram mass and weigh thorn on the spring scale. Because the spring scales may not be totally accurate, record the reading on the scale for both masses below.

4. Now that we have baseline values for the weights dour masses, we will first try to guess what will happen when we submerge them underwater. If we were to fully submerge each mass underwater while it was attached to the spring scale, would the reading on the spring scale be less than, equal to, or greater than the value when the mass was unsubmerged? Briefly explain your reasoning.

5. Now take the 500 gram mass (Do not do the 1000 gram mass nut yet) while it is attached to the spring scale and fully submerge the mass underwater. What Is the reading on the spring scald Was your guess correct?
