Question:
Choose a governing body of some sort. It can be local, regional, national, foreign, or even the governing body of some organization. Make sure that the governing body you choose holds democratic elections of some form or another (e.g., choosing a country with a monarchy is unacceptable, and similarly for an organization whose officials are appointed).
State the governing body you chose and its function, and then describe in detail the election process and voting method.
Note that the voting method may or may not be one of the voting methods we described in class. You can consult Wikipedia as a first reference for other voting methods. Alternatively, you can use Wikipedia to first choose a voting method that interests you, and then find a governing body that utilizes that voting method. Some things you should be sure to include are: The governing body you chose The function of the governing body How votes are collected How votes are tallied What kind of ballots are used (preference/ranking, single mark, approval) The name (if it exists) of the voting method used to choose a winner A detailed description of the voting method Some fairness criterion which is satisfied, and another which is not satisfied by the voting method (this fairness criterion may or may not be one we discussed in class, there are many more possibilities) The tie-breaking method (if it is relevant; e.g., the chances of a tie with 300 million voters using the plurality method is so low as to be inconsequential. On the other hand, a tie in the Electoral College system can, and has, happened.) If the governing body has been around for a while, you should describe an significant elections that have happened Do you like or dislike this voting method? Why? Where would you like to see it used?
