Read the information below carefully to complete this presentation on Psychology.
The PRESENTATION should involve observation of a child or adolescent (or more than one, if you want to compare and contrast them in terms of different capabilities), their behaviors and thought processes as they connect to theories we have studied in class (Piaget or Erikson theory). (Although not everyone in the class has their own child, most have younger siblings, nieces or nephews, neighbors, or have done baby-sitting. Some students have used themselves and connected their childhood to who they are now, and some have been very creative in their choice of observation.) You can use one particular theorist(I prefer Piaget), or more than one, and can focus on cognitive development, attachment and parenting styles issues, psychosocial development, emotional development, or all of the above. You can observe a child who has delays or issues such as autism and discuss this child’s development vs. where they “should” be developmentally. Your presentation to the class should be approximately 10 minutes. You can use video, photos, or a power point if you would like to do that to support or illustrate what you are presenting, but it is not required and will not affect your grade.
Make sure that you can relate the details of your observations to information we have covered in class; don’t go outside of the area of Development (for example, relate a child’s behavior to a particular stage of Piaget or Erikson, or how you see a particular parenting style affecting a child, don’t just talk in general about something like FAS or autism or ADHD without relating it to problems that may occur with development and that occur with a particular child).
