• I am interested in privacy and security in healthcare for two main reasons: During the last seven years working in clinical healthcare, I have observed multiple privacy breaches, which is very concerning to me. Second, I am also interested in privacy and security because HIM professionals are at the forefront of preserving medical records and personal health information privacy and confidentiality to ensure patients'/residents' rights to privacy. However, I think there is a knowledge gap in the HIPAA Privacy Rule, especially in an organization's various clinical/direct patient care departments.
