Problem: There is coffee shop located in Buffalo, NY. This shop is just one branch of a much bigger company that is spread throughout the entire country. The manager of the Buffalo location is meeting with the top leaders of the business and wishes to make the argument that her employees are making far less than the rest of the employees throughout the country and deserve an increase in pay. In order to make an effective argument, she has a data set with the salary of all her employees at her local branch as well as the average salary of all the employees within the business as a whole. This population mean is equal to $44,564.
Hypotheses: In a brief paragraph, restate the question. What is the sample? What is the population? State the null and alternative hypotheses (This time you do have a number and can state these in terms of it).
SPSS Analysis: We have some data from a hypothetical sample that includes the salaries from the Buffalo coffee shop. We also know that the average salary from the entire corporation is $44,564. Please use the SPSS Assignment 4 Lab Book to help guide you through the process of using SPSS to conduct a one-sample t-test and copying and pasting the output to a Word document.
Results: Identify the primary goal of this analysis. Report the t-value and p-value and discuss in words/paragraph if the salary for the local business is significantly different from the national average? How do you know which direction this difference is? In other words, how do you know which is higher, the national average or the local branch?
