1 DEN202 - Network administration ASSESSMENT 4: Individual assignment (Practical) and recorded video presentation and demonstration Overview Student will design, install, and configure network servers using Windows Server 2016 or a later version. This assignment has 2 parts: preparing a system documentation report and video demonstration to demonstrate the understanding of the implemented system. Timelines and important information Percentage value of assessment 4: 30% overall o Week 10 Individualreportsubmission (20%) o Week 10 individualrecorded video presentation and demonstration submission (10%) Due: Week 11 - Sunday, 4 February 2024, 11:59 PM Please include SISTC's assessment cover page at the beginning of the submitted work. Submitting your work late will attract a 10% reduction of mark for each day beyond the due date. A delay of more than 5 days will result in being granted a 0. The whole report should be 2000 words (+/- 10%) excluding personal reflection discussions and references. You need to submit a word version of your report to Moodle. Do not use Wikipedia as a source or a reference. Must consider at least five current references from journal/conference papers and books. Make sure you properly reference and title any diagrams/ graphics used in the assignment. Learning Outcomes Assessed The following course learning outcomes are assessed by completing this assessment task: LO1. Understand, explain and apply the OSI and TCP/IP models in networking LO2. Explain the IP networking protocol, routing and transition to Ipv6. LO3. Plan an IP addressing strategy and automated configuration with DHCP LO4. Install secure Windows Client and Server operating systems. LO5. Manage and maintain the Windows Server operating system and the Domain database LO6. Perform user and domain resource management tasks. LO7. Monitor system quality and performance. 2 Assessment Details Background XYZ Biotech Innovations is a burgeoning biotechnology company headquartered in Boston. The company is at the forefront of pioneering medical solutions, and with a dedicated team of 20 researchers, engineers, and administrative personnel, it is embarking on an ambitious journey to fortify its IT infrastructure. As the newly appointed IT Manager, your responsibility is to conceptualise and implement a LAN infrastructure that caters to the distinctive needs of a biotech firm. XYZ Biotech Innovations is structured into several key departments, including Research & Development, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Compliance, and Administration. The primary objective is to design and implement a LAN environment that fosters seamless collaboration, ensures secure data sharing, and centralises the management of resources. As the IT Manager of XYZ Biotech Innovations, your mandate involves centralising authentication, resource management, and access control to contribute to streamlined collaboration, strengthen data security, and enhance operational efficiency across diverse research and administrative departments. Your task in this assignment is to meticulously analyse the client's requirements, devise comprehensive solutions, execute configurations, troubleshoot any arising issues, and compile a system documentation report adhering to standard reporting practices. Assessment of Client's Requirements: Identify the specific needs of each department for collaboration and resource access. Evaluate the security requirements for data sharing and access control. Understand the scalability needs for future growth. Suggested Servers and Configurations: Authentication Server: Implement a server to centralise user authentication. Suggest using Microsoft Active Directory for seamless integration. File Server: Facilitate secure data sharing by setting up a dedicated file server. Implement access controls based on departmental needs. Database Server: Deploy a database server for efficient data management, considering the large datasets typical in biotechnology research. Web Server: If collaboration involves web-based platforms, set up a web server to host internal applications. Firewall and Security Server: Implement a robust firewall and security server to safeguard sensitive research data. Implementation and Configuration: Provide step-by-step instructions for setting up each server. Include screenshots at significant configuration steps. Ensure integration and compatibility among servers for a seamless LAN environment. System Documentation Report: Include all configurations with detailed descriptions. Explain the rationale behind each configuration decision. Prioritise human usability factors in documentation. Make the report user-friendly for the intended audience. 3 Network Changes Documentation and Troubleshooting: Establish a protocol for documenting any network changes. Explain how this documentation aids in the troubleshooting process by maintaining a record of common problems. Provide examples of how documentation has assisted in resolving past issues. Video Presentation and Demonstration: Use the configured system to demonstrate the implemented scenario in the Week 10 recorded video presentation. Showcase the seamless collaboration, data security measures, and operational efficiency achieved through the LAN infrastructure. Detailed requirements are provided below: Task A: design, installation and configuration 1. Design a LAN Infrastructure for 20 users and determine the feasibility in your design for number of Servers, Client's computers, Printers, Routers and Switches. You may use Cisco Packet tracer to show the overall network design. 2. Configure a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) to acquire automatic IP address. 3. Create Pharmaceuticals Inc. Domain, a new forest and provide centralised user authentication. 4. Create OUs (Organisational Units) and Groups based on department name and create two users and two computers for each department. 5. Create folders for each department and set the sharing privileges only to corresponding department users who can access the shared files. 6. Configure two Group policies e.g. Disable Guest Account and Set Minimum Password Length to Higher Limits 12 Characters 7. Install and configure IIS web services. 8. The company wants to store all the files on a separate file server and only users with appropriate access will be able to access them (not every user should have access to the files). 9. You can assume which users/groups will have access to these files and state your assumption clearly. 10. Table of servers, with MAC addresses, allocated IP addresses, client IP addressranges. 11. Installation and configuration details of all the servers in detail. Task B: recorded video presentation and demonstration submission Create a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation and demonstration recorded video and include the video link on the cover page of your group report submission. 4 Marking Rubric The marking rubric below provides essential sections of the report, but additional sections may be included if deemed necessary. Sections to be included in the report Description of the section Marks Introduction Introduces the purpose of the documentation report, and a clear road map of the report (which section presents which topic). 10 Requirement Analysis and identification of server roles & technologies Analysis of requirements, clear identification & listing of server roles/features/technologies needed for realising the scenario. 15 Configuration process description All steps are described for the implementation of each identified technology/feature/server role(s). Description refers to corresponding diagrams /screenshots using figure numbers. Steps are clear and easy to follow 15 Configuration screenshotsor commands Screenshots of commands and GUI configurations foreach identified technology/feature are provided using labelled diagrams with caption. 14 Conclusion Summary of all configurations performed. Conclusion of what has been achieved in this assignment 10 Reference Using APA format 6 Recorded Video Presentation and demonstrations Each Student will prepare 10 minutes recorded video that includes a presentation and demonstration of the assessment. The link of the recorded video must be included on the report cover page with access allowed to "anyone with the link". 30 Total 100 Reference You need to provide reference if necessary, using APA format. General Assessment Requirement Incomprehensible submissions - Assessments provide the opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills to achieve the required standard. To do this, assessment responses need to be both clear and easy to understand. If not, SISTC cannot determine that students have demonstrated their knowledge and skills. Assessments will, therefore, be marked accordingly including the potential for 0 (zero) marks where relevant. Check with marking rubric: Before submitting your assessment, you should check it against the assessment criteria and the marking rubric included in this specification to ensure that you have 5 satisfactorily addressed all the criteria that will be used to mark your submission. Feedback Feedback will be supplied through Moodle. Authoritative results will be published on Moodle. Academic Misconduct To submit your assessment task, you must indicate that you have read and understood, and comply with, the Sydney International School of Technology and Commerce Academic Integrity and Student Plagiarism policies and procedures.
