Ensuring long$-$term water security is a key mandate of many municipalities.

Nonetheless, interannual and seasonal variability in the hydrological cycles has

become more significant and unpredictable due to climate change. While supplyside management, e$.$g$.$ use of reclaimed water, has been undertaken by

governments to enhance the stability and reliability of water supply, demand$-$side

management also plays a critical role in cities$$ adaptation to climate change.

Establishing the baseline of water demand is crucial for devising the relevant

guidelines and frameworks. In particular, household water use survey is one of the

popular tools for collecting data to assess and quantify the effectiveness of a wide

variety of water conservation measures. The water$-$use journal in the survey often

details the water use pattern of the households for benchmarking and analysis with

other households of similar or different demographics.

$2.$ Deliverable:

In this assignment, you will be recording your personal or family$$s water use data

for a week $($a template for data collection is provided for your reference$).$ By

analyzing your water use pattern with the composition of total water consumption in

Hong Kong or your hometown, you can offer insights and recommendations on the

policy and measures $($e$.$g$.$ pricing strategy, water conservation measures, etc.$)$ that

would be relevant to users with similar behavior as you!

$3.$ Assessment criteria:

$$ Consistency and clarity in the approach used for data collection, processing,

analysis and annotation;

$$ Demonstration of a thorough knowledge and understanding of implications of

different water uses in the data analysis and result interpretation;

$$ Overall organization and presentation of the data, analysis and insights in the

report.
