Question: 1 . Objective The student will learn and practice a new work measurement tool. They will be able to test this their newly acquired skill

1. Objective
The student will learn and practice a new work measurement tool. They will be able to test this their newly acquired skill by comparing it with the actual times.
2. Set-up
Groups of between 5-10 are sent to the lab at a time. The lab technician/ student will have objects of different shapes, weights and sizes placed at different distances. The technician or a student will then pick up 1 object at a time and place it at a specific point (could be building a tower, assembling a product, packing a toolbox, etc). This should include objects that are easy to grasp as well as small objects like a small Allen Key. The operator can also stand up and walk a few paces.
The work assignment should have the following characteristics:
i. Theeffortportionoftheworkcycleismorethan1min.
ii. The cycle is not highly repetitive.
iii. The manual portion of the work cycle does not involve a large number of either complex
or simultaneous hand motions.
The group would make a video of the activities.
Each group will have a different sequence as it will be easy to mix up motions/objects to reduce copying.
3. Task
Each student will then have the opportunity to measure distances using a measurement tape. Using MTM-2 tables, they then on an individual basis compile an MTM-2 analysis.
A short report (paragraph) describing the set-up
1
Create a drawing with distances of the work activity observed
A short report (paragraph) on what the results mean will be required.
4. Evaluation
When marking the assignment, we check to see the specific video used and then compare the time of the video with the time determined by the student using MTM-2. We also check the format of the Therbligs.
5. Evidence of practical
Video, students MTM-2 analysis and report
