Based in the Philippines, Lingkod Bayan is a charity which raises funds to provide education in less privileged areas in the Metro Manila. Run by a Board of Trustees, the organization operates on laissez faire management principles. There are few full-time paid employees and Lingkod Bayan is heavily dependent upon the work of volunteers. Although these volunteers are dedicated, many have said that they do not feel the organization knows where it is going and have said that they are not condent about the future of Lingkod Bayan. Funding comes from appeals to the general population, which are made through newspaper advertisements. Lingkod Bayan does not use the Internet to promote or raise donations and, generally, does not use available technology to any extent in its organization. Additionally, Lingkod Bayan receives corporate donations, most of which come from old school friends of the trustees. There is no government funding. Recently, Lingkod Bayan has had difculty in attracting donations and is at risk of not being able to carry on its work. The charity industry has become more competitive and many other organizations within it have become more aggressive in their marketing and promotion. None of the Board of Trustees has a commercial background. The Chairman of Trustees has recently been to a number of conferences where the value of foresight and the need to conduct a frequent and thorough 'environmental analysis\" have been discussed.
