1. Respond to the discussion below

The one thing that I found surprising was that in the table they had separated tone and voice. I always thought they were referencing the same thing when it came to writing and never really thought of separating the two. But with the academic writing since it's used for learning and demonstration it makes sense that you use a authoritative tone and show that you know the topic but also up to learning new things. And with the voice, you use a passive voice to show that the experience is prioritized over the performance of what you are writing about. And it almost seems like in business writing that it is the opposite. With the tone of business writing, it depends on the circumstances and what you are trying to accomplish with your presentation whether that's friendly, authoritative, persuasive, or even argumentative. And with the voice it tends to be more aggressive in the sense of getting the action done and make it more direct.

2. Respond to the discussion below

As I read about the differences between academic and business writing, what surprised me the most was how business writing is much more concise and straight to the point than academic writing. In the Oregon State University article, it explains how academic writing shows that you understand the material given, while business writing demonstrates what needs to get done. I found this surprising because, as students, we spend so much time learning academic writing when both are equally important. For someone who has been writing in APA format for most of her college experience, business writing reminds me of constructing a PowerPoint presentation on how the information is delivered.
