Consider a test object with a weight of 2.00 N, attached to a string with a tension of 2.10 N that passes over an ideal pulley of radius 2.50 cm. The data logger only knows that the pulley is spinning, not how big it is, so it cannot measure how many meters/second; it can only tell you only how many radians/second. Thus the data logger is telling us the "angular acceleration" but we actually want "linear acceleration" so you have to multiply the data logger's value for acceleration by the radius of the pulley. radians/second meters gives you meters/second, which are the right units for linear acceleration, which is the usual acceleration that we've dealt with so far in this course.
