11. At some future date before 2030, it is projected that the country will go through four seasons without rains. It just so happens that this occurs in the year 2026/27 season. As a result, all rivers in Guateng and the former Transvaal region dry up and large rivers run at 20% capacity during this season. Eskom runs into a problem of water supply to the coal powered power plants (mostly located in the Mpumalanga/Limpopo Region). Due the problem low water levels there is less water for power generation and cooling systems and therefore the major plants are shut down such that there is no electricity from the grid in the Gauteng region for 180 days in December 2026 to June 2027. You are an expert called upon to advise the minister and the general populace of South Africa on how to manage the impending crisis. You are requested to highlight the problems that are eminent during the crisis and suggest ways to minimise the impact. Since the impending crisis is known well in advance, in your analysis include the preparatory measures that should be undertaken to minimise the impact. ( 12 pts)
