1.1 The African continent prides itself for having aligned itself with the international community on the promotion of human rights as envisaged in the African Charter on Human and People Rights which was adopted in 1981 and entered into force in 1986. Following suite, many of the African countries domesticated the protection of human rights in the Constitutions of their respective countries.
