In Chapter 3 and 4 the author talks about how you should tailor your resume to the job title you are applying for. To do so you should first make sure you meet most of the minimum requirements for the position as listed. Then match your transferable skills to the duties and desirable traits listed on the job description for the position. Scan the duties and try to match the ones that are more important, these are usually listed at the start of the description, or could be listed under essential duties.

For this assignment you will conduct a job analysis on two positions you would like to apply for. These two positions could be very similar or you can pick positions in different fields.

  1. Review as many job postings as you can using internet job boards (ex. Indeed), LinkedIn, company websites, etc. until you find the job you want and qualify for.
  2. List the first job title you have decided upon ( 1 point)
  3. List 4 of the most important job requirements. Try not to use the ones that state must be 18 years of age, must have a driver's license, or anything that is black or white. Use this assignment to gain skills in conducting a target job analysis. (2 points)
  4. Match your transferable skills to these 4 job requirements USING EXAMPLES on how you have utilized these skills in your past (paid or unpaid) position or in any given life situation (possibly college level classwork). (4 points)
