Assignment 3: Target Job Analysis

In Chapter 3 and 4 the author talks about how you should tailor your resume to the job title you are applying for. To do so you should first make sure you meet most of the minimum requirements for the position as listed. Then match your transferable skills to the duties and desirable traits listed on the job description for the position. Scan the duties and try to match the ones that are more important, these are usually listed at the start of the description, or could be listed under essential duties.

For this assignment you will conduct a job analysis on two positions you would like to apply for. These two positions could be very similar or you can pick positions in different fields.

1. Review as many job postings as you can using internet job boards (ex. Indeed), LinkedIn, company websites, etc. until you find the job you want and qualify for.
2. List the first job title you have decided upon ( 1 point)
3. List 4 of the most important job requirements. Try not to use the ones that state must be 18 years of age, must have a driver's license, or anything that is black or white. Use this assignment to gain skills in conducting a target job analysis. (2 points)
4. Match your transferable skills to these 4 job requirements USING EXAMPLES on how you have utilized these skills in your past (paid or unpaid) position or in any given life situation (possibly college level classwork). (4 points)
5. Add the URL (web address) to the position (1/2 point)
6. REPEAT for a second job title (7 points)

1. Gathering, organizing, and analyzing field data to be used in the preparation of scientific reports
2. Conducting environmental impact assessments and field surveys for rare, threatened, or endangered species and their habitats
3. Bachelors in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science or related field.
4. 2+ years of experience in consulting and writing biological documents

My Skills that match these job requirements:

1. When employed by the AAA Construction Company as an entry level Botanist, I was placed on a project in 2008, which entailed expanding the Highway into an area which did not have any previous highways. I became well versed with Oregon Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration environmental laws including the endangered species act and the Federal Laws concerning wild life and fisheries. I was responsible for gathering crucial information needed for analyzing the environment before plans for construction and permits were authorized.
2. My position at AAA Construction Company required I develop and write biological studies for botanical resources. I wrote the Biological Assessment document for the Highway expansion project in Oregon. I have written other Biological Assessment documents involving plant based studies and endangered species related to the environment and how construction of new structures will affect the sensitive areas around the new development.
3. I have a Bachelors in Biology from San Francisco State University and over 3 years of writing biological documents
4. I worked for 5 years with AAA Construction Company doing consulting and writing biological documents.
