2. Course title: Reinforced Concrete Design-II (RCD-II) 3. Title of Project: Capacity Evaluation of an Existing Building for Vertical Extension 4. Statement of Problem: The Works Department/Administration of Abasyn University has decided to construct one more story on Existence Civil Engineering Building. Before going to Plan and Construct, they given us a task to check Capacity of Existence Structure along with its foundation and gave us recommendations. The Students are required to prepare a model of existence Structure with same Dimensions and X-sections. Calculate all loads as per UBC 97 and Building code of Pakistan. Strength and Quality of Concrete and steel used should be investigated through any laboratory procedures. Soil and Foundation capacity should also be check for the additional loads. Any missing data can be assumed as per the local Practice. A report should be submitted including both manual and software's based calculations. 5. Knowledge Profile (KP) Student shall grasp the formal aspects of computer and information science to support the analysis and modelling applicable to the discipline (KP-2 of PEC manual). The student will also gain knowledge that supports design in a practice area. (KP-5 of PEC manual) 6. Range of Complex Problem-Solving (CPS) Attributes: Student will encounter wide-ranging or conflicting technical and engineering issues during their learning (CPS- 2 of PEC Manual). This will require depth of analysis in form of abstract thinking and originality in analysis to formulate suitable models in addition to research-based knowledge to arrive at a solution using fundamental based approach (CPS-3 & 4 of PEC manual). 7. Complex Problem Activities (CEA): Solution of the problem requires utilization of diverse range of resources such as research materials, latest codes and standards for design of buildings (local/ international codes available), information technology facilities and software technology in order to implement the project successfully (CEA-2 of PEC manual). Example of software used are but not limited to word processor, spreadsheets, AutoCAD and SAP 2000/ ETABS) etc. 2. Course title: Reinforced Concrete Design-II (RCD-II) 3.
