Discussion 4 COLLAPSE Dick's Sporting Goods had a role in the e-commerce market, however, for the e-commerce services, they hired a third party organization to be in control of the e-commerce market. This is great because it allows dicks to save money and focus on other things. However, after awhile, this third party service got very expensive for Dick's, since the third party organization, eBay, was getting a commission of each sale. Because of this Dick's decided to take control over their e-commerce and produce/manage a system in house. Producing this new system is very costly for Dick's, they estimated it would cost $80 Million. Dick's receives many benefits from being in control, though. First of all, they would save money in the long run because all of the revenue from the sales would go to Dick's, not a third party company. Using the third party software can be difficult for both ends of the deal, since the software isn't very customizable. They utilize their numerous brick and mortar stores with their distribution centers to create an efficient network for transporting goods. Instead of having large warehouses as their distribution centers. Dicks uses all their stores which already exist as their distribution centers. Since they can distribute all their goods in house, they are also able to track their sales and distribution data more efficiently
