3. Poly(hexamethylene adipamide)—or “nylon 6,6"—is a high mechanical strength polymer commonly used to make fibers for a range of applications, including textiles, carpeting, and molded parts. While usually semicrystalline in nature, it is possible to produce totally crystalline nylon 6,6. At room temperature, crystalline nylon 6,6 exists in a triclinic structure with a density of 1.213 g/cm³. The lattice parameters of the unit cell are as follows: a = 0.497 nm b = 0.547 nm c = 1.729 nm a = 48.4° B = 76.6° y = 62.5° The volume of a triclinic unit cell can be determined, based upon these lattice parameters, as: V = abc√ √1 - cos² a - cos² ß - cos² y + 2 cos a cos ³ cos y Using all of this information, determine the number of polymer repeat units that are contained within the unit cell for crystalline nylon 6,6. 3.
