5(c)_#2: Water is the working fluid in a regenerative Rankine cycle with one open feedwater
heater and one closed feedwater heater. Superheated vapor enters the first-stage turbine at 14
MPa, 520 oC, and the condenser pressure is 10 kPa. Steam expands through the first-stage
turbine to 4 MPa where some of the steam is extracted and diverted to a closed feedwater heater.
The feedwater leaves the open feedwater heater as saturated liquid. The remainder of the
feedwater expands to 1 MPa through the second-stage turbine where more is extracted to an open
feedwater heater operating at 1 MPa. Condensate drains from the closed feedwater heater as
saturated liquid and is trapped into the open feedwater heater. The feedwater leaves the closed
feedwater heater at the saturation temperature at 4 MPa. All turbines and pumps operate with an
efficiency of 88%.(Wcycle =943.22 kJ/kg;41.2%)
