$7\mathrm{.}1-$ Module $7$ Discussion $-$ Base Line $($Datum$)$ Dimensioning

As you learned in Unit $5,$ dimensions are an important component of blueprints. They define such geometrical characteristics as

distances, diameters, angles and locations to facilitate the precise manufacture of parts.

Unit $13$ introduced you to a different and very important type of dimensioning, base line or datum dimensioning, which may

also be referred to as coordinate dimensioning.

Referencing Unit $5$ and Unit $13,$ write a post explaining the difference between the standard stick dimensioning $($often applied

as chain dimensioning$)$ you learned about in Unit $5$ and the base line dimensioning you learned about in Unit $13($you may want

to reference Figure $5-1$ on page $39$ and compare that to Figure $13-6$ on page $135).$ You will also find it helpful to review Figure

$13-8$ on page $136$ and Figure $13-9$ on page $137,$ as these will give you a picture of the tolerance ramifications when using chain

dimensioning instead of base line dimensioning.
