7. ACADEMIC LITERACY: Proofread your work carefully before submission. When you are satisfied with the structure and content of your answer, it is time to proofread for grammar, punctuation and spelling. Markers are often unduly influenced by the presence of obvious errors such as misspelt words and inappropriate use of punctuation, so make sure such mistakes are dealt with by careful editing. Use the Australian spelling rather than the American spelling. If you know that you have problems with grammar, consult a grammar book on those issues on which you get feedback: for example, tense, subject- yerb agreement, run-on sentences.
