A company (Apple Inc) has asked you to give a view of its potential future developments supported by some financial projections and analysis. You can pick whichever company you want to focus on as long as it is not an airline.

 

Specifically, the client is interested having the below questions answered:

• A quick review/survey on the current state of industry of the company that is relevant to your client, including the projected growth of the market in the next 5 years (this can come from external research or your own forecast)
• The projected P&L performance of your client in the next 3-5 years based on supported assumptions
• Use at least 5 ratios to show past performance and show how they will be in the future. Provide rationale/narrative to explain the findings
• A brief, 1-page review of the CSR and DEIB policies of the company - does it need to do more/better?
• Concluding remarks that summarise the main messages/so-what

 

Deliverable: A slide deck - you are very welcome to deploy any data visualization techniques. It should also tell a story, making sure that it is both interesting to read and informative. You are welcome to submit any Excel spreadsheets.

 

It is important to note that this assignment is not about whether your projections are accurate or not. Unless you have got insider information, it will be an impossible task. Indeed, even if you got them, who could tell whether whether the projections would turn out correctly. So, any ideas, views and conclusions as well as explanations and rationale supporting your view must be communicated in the deliverable. And they must be logical and make sense. The real challenge is therefore how you can explain and glean insight from the analysis. After all, in financial planning and analysis, it is always the journey that counts.

 

Since this is a graduate-level course, it is expected that your final output would be produced to a professional standard. Bear in mind the following when it comes to quality assurance:
 

• Logic of the analysis
• Error-free writing/quality control
• Keeping it precise and concise - get to the point
• Consistent formatting
• Referencing and referencing format
• Excel spreadsheet must be clearly structured and clean (badly formatted spreadsheet gives the impression of poor quality work)

 

Last but not least, please note that this is a "beauty contest", which means not everyone will get a high grade - some will be better than most. In other words, you are competing with your colleagues. This is how the world of business works when it comes to selecting the winner among different bidders. This also means that it is inevitable that the grades given to your submission will be subjective.
