Question: A double acting cyinder ( whthout a spring return ) has a diameter of 2 inches, a length of 1 2 inches and its' piston

A double acting cyinder (whthout a spring return) has a diameter of 2 inches, a length of 12 inches and its'
piston rod has a diametet of 0.4 inches. It is being used in an application in which the piston rod is
attached to a linkage (onty a guided siding block and one bar of the linkage is shown) which requires a 300
ib. force pushing on the linkge during extension of the piston rod and a 290 lb . force puiling on the
linkage during retraction of the piston rod.
Assuming the input pressure to the cyinder is the same during extension and retraction find the
minimum amount of pressure needed. Do not include frictional resistance in the cylinder in your
calculation.
b. Determine the maxmum allowable stroke of the pigon rod (made of steel) for the following two
mouming configurations: flange mounted at the plston end and flange mounted at the rod end use a
factor of safety equal to one.
