Question:
A manufacturing facility receives job A to its own receiving dock with inter-arrival times that are exponentially distributed with a mean of 20 minutes. Job A’s are processed on Machine 1 - processing time N(4,1) min. Job A’s then go to the washing queue and from there to an industrial washing machine. Five of the completed assemblies are then washed together in the industrial washing machine. Washing time is uniformly distributed between 4 and 6 min. After the washing operation, completed assemblies go to the packing queue one by one and from there to the packing machine. At the packing machine, 4 completed assemblies are packed together into a box. Packing time is N(4,2) min. After packing, the boxes will go to the shipping department and from there they leave the system. Run the simulation for 100 hours.
Respond to the following questions: What is the utilization of Machine 1, Washing, and Packing stations? How many assemblies will be shipped out of the system? What is WIP?
