A network organization is one that operates within a system of interdependent organizations for the purpose of achieving objectives that are agreeable to partner organizations. In our published research examining the behavior of twenty-three interorganizational networks managed by Texas Instruments, Karen Higgins identified severs variables that were present in the highest-performing networks. Leading complex network organizations requires the development of trust and shared values among leaders of participating organizations. Leaders of member organizations in a network must possess integrity and live up to the commitment made when the network is formed.
