Question:
A news story claims that Americans spend 10 minutes in the shower. You think that Oklahomans actually spend less time in the shower. You timed the showers of 8 Oklahomans. The times (in minutes) were 8, 11, 9, 4,6, 9, 10, and 7. In parts A and B, we will do a t test for a single sample using 10 minutes as the "known" population mean for the comparison distribution using a two- tailed test with a.05 significance level.
Part A. By hand, use the five steps of hypothesis testing and see if the data support your hypothesis. Note that I gave you scores in the X column instead of Sum of Squares (SS). You will have to calculate this yourself
a. Restate the question as a research hypothesis and a null hypothesis about the populations.
b. Determine the characteristics of the comparison distribution.
c. Determine the cutoff sample score (or critical value) on hte comparison distribution at which the null hypothesis should be rejected.
d. Determine your sample's score on the comparison distribution.
e. Decided whether to reject the null hypothesis.
