A piston-cylinder assembly contains a two-phase liquid-vapor mixture of H2O at 300 psi
with a quality of 70%(state 1). The mixture is heated and expands at constant pressure
until a final temperature of 550oF is reached (state 2).
a) Determine the phase of water at the initial (1) and final (2) states.
b) Sketch and label the process along a constant pressure line on a T-u diagram.
Be sure to sketch the line and the states relative to a saturation dome.
c) Calculate the change in temperature (T2 T1 in oF) for the process.
d) Calculate the change in specific internal energy (u2 u1 in BTU/lb) for the process.
e) Determine the work for the process, w12 in BTU per lb of H2O present. Dont forget
to clearly indicate the direction of energy transfer due to work (in or out of system)
too!
