$($A$)$ PLANNING AND DESIGN INSTRUCTIONS:

Using the selected Mall by your Group, discuss how the mall meets a need in your

community, the typical services offered, activities performed, and mall market size.

$($Ensure industrial engineering tools$/$methods$/$charts$/$diagrams are used where

appropriate$).$

Observe and analyze the flow systems or types $($e$.$g$.,$ material, people, energy,

information, etc.$)$ within the facility to conduct a from$-$to chart and activity relationship

using design principles learned during the module. $($A minimum of two flow systems

should be used$).$

Using the Systematic Layout Planning Procedure $($SLP$),$ develop a $2-$dimensional

blocklayout facility to meet the needs of the mall above. Discuss how you might apply

any known facility layout algorithm to improve the initial layout.

One $(1)$ new shop is to be in the mall. Design the location of this shop using the

following:

Minimizing rectilinear flow between the existing departments.

Applying the Centre of gravity method of facility location.

Using your experience or judgment as a group.

Compare the results of your location designs using these methods.

Discuss the possible impacts of the placement of your layouts and location designs.

Ensure you justify some of the impacts with applicable standards and legislation.
