Introduction: Make a general introduction of the topic and write your thesis/your position as the last sentence in the introduction. The introduction is also where you introduce the author and text by full name, then refer to the author by last name only for the rest of the essay. If the title of the text has a colon, use the title words before the colon after introducing the full title. You don't need to keep repeating the author and title's full name after you have done it once.

Body paragraphs: support your position by using what the author says (They Say) and interpreting it (I Say). Use quotes to support your statements and explain what the quotes mean beyond "this is..." Use open and close quotes, then cite the page number in parenthesis, and the period belongs on the outside of the parenthesis. Make enough body paragraphs to meet the page length.

Conclusion: This is where you wrap up your essay by restating your thesis differently than you did in the introduction. Then, you will make general statements about the topic again. There are many ways to write a conclusion.
