A pressurized container produced from cast iron is closed and sealed at the top with a circular plate cover made of steel. A total of 16 low-carbon martensitic Q&T steel bolts are used to join the body and the cover, which are tightened to 90% of proof load. The pressure in the container fluctuates between 0 and 450 kPa during operation. Find the factor of safety against fatigue failure of a bolt using the Modified Goodman criterion.
