A. Read the below case about an ethical dilemma within a company and then answer the following questions: (18 points) (ILOs: A1, A3, C1, C2, C3, D2, D3, D4) "XY Contracting Company is a well-known company in Bahrain, it is ranked 2nd amongst its competitors in Bahrain. XY contacting company has been in the business market for a period of 35 years going onwards. XY Contracting Company has a very good connectivity over the cities in Bahrain and it is well-known for its high quality services that are provided with reasonable prices. XY Contacting Company never fails to meet customers satisfaction. Ahmed is currently an employee in XY contracting company, hes been working in the operation department for almost 10 years now. XY Contracting Company always orders its raw materials from outside factories, the company usually follows this procedure in which they get 3 quotations from 3 different companies that offer the same materials but within those 3 companies there was always that one company (A) that Mohammed the senior employee would always choose. Ahmed sensed that there was something wrong because the company (A) that was always chosen has the highest raw material prices while the other companies offer the same materials with the same high quality with lower prices. Ahmed felt the need to go and investigate more about the situation. Eventually, Ahmed has discovered that his suspicion was correct when he found out that company (A) was paying Mohammed a commission secretly to always select their company for any raw materials purchases. On the next day, Ahmed went to Mohammed and confronted him about the situation and warned him about his latest orders that he has made and advised him to stop following this path as it is going to raise consequences in the near future with the Auditors and for the firm. Mohammed response was very calm and told Ahmed to not worry about it. In his response, he also mentioned giving Ahmed tips indirectly to keep him silent. Ahmed did not like his answer so he waited for Mohammed next order to make his move. Few days later, once Ahmed noticed that Mohammed raised an order from company (A) once again, he immediately sent an email to the higher management including the HR and their Manager of the operation department. He backed his email with evidences to support his claim using all the 3 different companies offers, their products information and quality preferences. In conclusion, this dilemma has effected both XY company itself and other regional companies in terms of their firm regulations and restrictions in the workplace. New policies and procedures were applied by XY contracting company with each purchase to be made the quotation must be inputted in the intranet of the company and get it approved by a committee of different layers of employee up to the department head in addition to the following 1) assigning a specific employee within the operation department to monitor and overlook all orders, 2) each employee has to support their choice of purchase with a reason description and evidence of receipt, 3) applied a new policy and as a statement in their work contract any employee that intends to practice unethical behaviors with outside parties for any sort of secret benefit for their own interest is going to face legal acquisitions and be fired after the first notice.
