A researcher is interested in how episodes which prime mortality salience (events that trigger thoughts about death) may trigger physical symptoms and anxiety, and may be related to the tendency to seek medical assistance. The researcher therefore randomly assigns males and females to one of three levels of mortality salience primes (no prime, weak prime, strong prime). In the weak prime condition, participants were told of the death of an individual similar in age and gender as the participant. In the strong prime condition, participants were asked to think about their own death and imagine how they would feel in the minutes just prior to their death. Each participant is contacted 30 days later and asked to report: (1) the number of different physical symptoms (i.e., SYMPTOMS) they have experienced in the last month, (2) their level of anxiety (i.e., ANXIETY) in the past month on a 10 pt scale ranging from 1 (not at all) to 10 (extremely), (3) whether they made an unscheduled visit (i.e., VISIT) to a medical professional during the past month (no/yes), and (4) how preoccupied they have been with their own mortality (i.e., THOUGHTS) during the past month on a 5 pt scale ranging from 1 (not at all) to 5 (extremely). Conduct the following analyses using SPSS and save your output to your Onedrive. All output and writeup of your results (in a word file) must be submitted by the deadline. 1. Conduct a 2 (gender) x 3 (prime) completely between subjects factorial ANOVA on ANXIETY ratings, include means and standard deviations, effect sizes, and a plot of the means. 2. Conduct a Oneway ANOVA on THOUGHTS about mortality using mortality prime as the independent factor. Conduct a Tukey post-hoc test, and show all means and standard deviations. 3. Conduct a Chi-Square test of Independence comparing mortality salience prime and whether or not they visited the doctor (i.e., VISIT). * 4. In a word document, write the results of these three analyses in three separate summary paragraphs in APA format. Include all relevant descriptive statistics to help explain your findings. Submit this word file, with your name in the title along with results (e.g., myers.results), and submit your spss output file with your name on it as well (e.g., myers, spss2.output). *In writing up your findings, when describing the results in question 3, note the probability that they visited the doctor given they had no prime and compare that to the probability they visit the doctor given they had a strong prime. Copy and paste your output into your word file (you can use screenshots if copying and pasting is difficult) along with your APA results reported.
