A response to the discussion post below:

Based on my prior and current knowledge, I support a country that adopts a free market economic system because I personally believe that the competition that this economic system allows drives innovation and competition. The other economic systems provide no incentive to do more than your bare minimum share of the work and if everybody does the bare minimum, if effort is optional then there will be no innovation or advancement.

The most compelling material from this class that relates directly to my idea of different economic systems would be the pilgrim video. This was a close knit group of people who initially subscribed to a communal socialist system, their success in this economic system was significantly stunted and was ridden with disdain and hunger. This relatively small colony that was made up of close knit and highly religious individuals could not go above and beyond for each other by providing food and other services without personal incentives. If this group was unable to do it, then it would be simply unrealistic to scale this economic system where hundreds of millions of strangers are expected to work for the greater good.
