Question: A satellite communication system is operating 6/4 GHz frequency with a bandwidth of 36MHz. the receiving end of the transponder has a power flux density

A satellite communication system is operating 6/4 GHz frequency with a bandwidth of 36MHz. the receiving end of the transponder has a power flux density of -97dB/m2. The uplink carrier to noise ratio is 26 dB. The EIRP and back off of the transmitting end of the transponder is 46 dBW and 3 dBW respectively. The receiving earth station is using 5m dish with 70% efficiency and the receiver has overall system noise temperature of 160K. Assuming both uplink and downlink path lengths are 35800km and the Boltzmann’s constant is 1.38 x10-23 J/K, determine the followings:

i)   Uplink isotropic radiated power (EIRP)

ii)  Figure of merit of the transponder and

iii) Downlink carrier to the noise ratio.

If the system is specified to operates with min C/N of 20dB, find out whether it is within specification or not.
