A science teacher plans to have students observe baby white mice to learn about scientific methods. The teacher first spends several days having the class research mouse biology and behavior and then divides the class into four groups. After some preliminary observations, each group works with the teacher to formulate a hypothesis about mice behavior. The hypotheses for each group are: Group 1: When placed in an unfamiliar environment, male mice will engage in exploratory behavior to a greater extent than will female mice. Group 2: The amount of food each mouse eats will increase with age until food intake reaches a maximum value and will then decrease. Group 3: As mice get older and become familiar with running one maze, the time that is required to learn a new maze of equal difficulty will decrease. Group 4: Mice that are given a range of different foods in their diet will eat more and grow faster by weight than mice that eat only one kind of food. Group 4 decides to divide their mice into two groups. The first group will be provided with a commercial mouse food only, while the second group will be provided with the commercial food
