A security manager should be viewed as the chief or director of their security department. Their role not only includes creating the security program and strategy, but also many other functions. This includes all of the day to day operational issues that come with running a department of security personnel. Examples include payroll, human resources issues, billing and invoicing, customer relations, answering emails, hiring, training, interviewing, investigations, and a host of other functions. One such function includes keeping up the productivity and morale of the security team. Often security officers are portrayed in less than a positive light in popular culture. This includes how they are portray in TV Shows and movies. This can serve to negatively impact officer morale. For this post imaging that you are the security manager for a security team of 40 officers. Develop a strategy for how you would handle low morale in a department that occurs after the release of a movie that negatively portrays private security officers.
