A simple response to the text below:

So, to put it simply, Pilgrims, like most people, do not want to work for free. Once there is a system where other people make sure your work is good, most people take the opportunity to not do anything. Without the push of responsibility, and the pride that comes with it, people became lazy. Owning and needing to take care of your own land makes one have a duty to not only survive but be successful in the eyes of those around you.

The economic system they tried was communism. Everyone works for everyone else. The system works on paper but is flawed in reality. The system is dependent on honesty and integrity. One hand washes the other. But what if a dirty hand notices that the clean hand will buy the soap, turn on the water, lather the soap on their hand, scrub your dirty hand, and then what? The soap is bought and you're all clean, why should you worry about anything when technically you have what you need? You need people to think bigger picture and be selfless and that is against human nature.
