A study conducted at the UCLA explored the connection between parenting style and children's honesty.In this study, parents were observed during brief interactions with their preschoolers at a local park.Based on these interactions, each parent was labeled as authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, or uninvolved.Fifty parents representing each style were chosen to participate in the lab phase of the study.In the lab phase, each child played cards with an experimenter while the parent waited in a separate room.During the card game, the experimenter left the room for ten minutes, placing his cards face down on the table before leaving.While he was gone, a hidden camera recorded whether or not the child cheated by looking at the cards.It was found that the incidence of cheating was greatest among children with authoritarian parents but least among those with authoritative parents.
