A supply chain should be both efficient and effective, to be sure. When we are effective, we are focused on getting the work done. Value can be added to the supply chain to benefit the business by expanding the product offerings, making the products shelf-ready, managing inventory more efficiently, controlling labor costs, reducing the number of suppliers by making existing partners perform more value-added functions, reducing transportation costs, etc. Where do inefficiencies usually occur in the supply chain process?
