A time-use survey is a statistical survey which aims to report data on how, on average, people spend their time. Over an average 24 hour period, you will be asked to observe and track the activities of 2 people, ideally of different genders, and reflect on the data you collect.
Part A : Time Use Survey Pick two people (the subjects of your survey) whose days, activities and routines you know very well (and who are not children). It may be easiest to pick yourself and someone you live with. Ideally, pick people of different genders. Note each of your subjects' demographic information: Subject 1 Subject 2 Title: (ex: self, mom, dad, brother, sister, husband, wife, grandma, uncle, etc) Age: Gender: Title: (ex: self, mom, dad, brother, sister, husband, wife, grandma, uncle, etc) Age: Gender: Then, enter your subjects' activities throughout the average day into a chart like the one below. Make sure to use the same day for each person. You may have to ask for their help in noting what they are doing all day. Estimate how long each activity takes (for example: "does dishes - 20 mins.", "simultaneously helps eldest child with homework - 40 mins"). Try to be specific Colour code the activities. Blue for domestic work, Red for paid work, Green for leisure, Orange for childcare, etc. You may add colours as you see fit. This will help make patterns more obvious.
