Question:
AB Electric is an electronics manufacturer headquartered in Sydney. Its manufacturing services include taking product from initial documentation stage through to material procurement, planning and manufacturing, final assembly, testing and delivery to customer schedule. In the last few years AB Electric has experienced rapid growth, and now has over 10 branches in Australia and employs 50 people. AB Electric has problems in most of their business processes; disjointed information systems are in place, and this is causing communication problems, problems in tracking inventory and production, and in the fortnightly transfers of information from system to system. Managers find that requests for aggregate data take too long. Extensive manual interventions are required that make reporting challenging, time-consuming and disposed to errors. AB Electric knows that some of these problems are associated with use of an Excel-based planning tool. In addition, their systems only allow the company to interact with suppliers and customers via fax.
5.1 Explain and suggest the Information System(s) that can help AB Electric to address their problems
5.2 Explain two benefits to AB Electric of deploying the proposed system
